The 2026 edition of the Umurage International Book & Art Festival brings together authors, artists, publishers, educators, researchers, policymakers, technologists and young creators to explore how we can shape Africa’s evolving knowledge and creative ecosystem.

As artificial intelligence transforms the way we create, learn and share knowledge, the festival will examine how human voices, cultures, languages and creativity can work alongside intelligent tools. Conversations will explore AI, multilingual publishing, indigenous languages, visual storytelling, intellectual property and digital innovation, while asking an important question: How do we embrace new technologies without losing the human stories and cultural identities that define us?
